Implicit Bias Testimony
When Rep. Ana Hernandez asked if I would testify on HB 2714, implicit bias CLE training for judges and lawyers in the State of Texas, not only was I honored to do so, but proud to see the reaction from Chair Leach and the entire committee to the bill.
As advocates for our clients, lawyers are called to obtain, synthesize, and apply as much information as possible in advocacy of our clients. This type of training allows us to better understand not only the viewpoints of plaintiffs and defendants, mediators helping to resolve disputes, potential jurors, but also the judges whose courts we practice in.
As leaders in our respective communities, this type of training allows for us to help bridge gaps of understand between respective groups, help solve problems that may not seem apparent on the surface, and better serve our neighbors.
As People, this type of common sense training advocated for by lawyers and judges across the political and ideological spectrum, shows Texans we are serious about bringing people together instead of dividing them a part.
I am grateful for the opportunity to speak and hopeful this bill makes it across the finish lines.
Texans better understanding Texans. That’s what we all should be striving to do.
